Top Irish lawyer dies suddenly

One of Ireland's top lawyers and the husband of Government Chief Whip Mary Hanafin - Eamon Leahy SC - died suddenly in Co Donegal today.

One of Ireland's top lawyers and the husband of Government Chief Whip Mary Hanafin - Eamon Leahy SC - died suddenly in Co Donegal today.

The 46-year-old died on the way to Letterkenny General Hospital after he collapsed in a room in a B&B.

Mr Leahy was representing the Garda Commissioner at the Morris Tribunal.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell paid tribute to Mr Leahy, saying he was a brilliant lawyer who exemplified the best in the profession he loved.
