The death of a leading Irish lawyer was tonight described as a devastating blow to the country’s legal system.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said he was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Eamon Leahy SC.

One of Ireland's top lawyers and the husband of Government Chief Whip Mary Hanafin - Eamon Leahy SC - died suddenly in Co Donegal today.
