EU fishing officials are due to meet later today to discuss a plan which could significantly reduce the size of the Irish fishing fleet.

The Fisheries Management Committee in Brussels wants to apply a regulation that would deny fishing rights to any vessels which were not given a tonnage allocation by January 1 last.
