Uninsured drivers 'may have vehicles seized'
The Government is reportedly planning to introduce a new scheme whereby vehicles driven by uninsured motorists can be seized by the authorities.
Reports this morning said an estimated 80,000 uninsured vehicles are being driven on Ireland's roads.
This is despite the introduction of five penalty points and a fine of €2,500 for motorists found guilty of the offence.
The Transport Minister apparently already has the power to seize uninsured vehicles under the 1994 Road Traffic Act.
