Gardaí investigate suspicious Athlone death

Gardaí in Co Westmeath are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Athlone early this morning.

The 42-year-old man was found with serious head injuries after gardaí were called to a house in the Monkland estate following reports of a disturbance in the area at around 4am.

He died later in hospital.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and a post mortem is due to be carried out later today.
