Hospital to make statement on child's death
The Minister for Health, Michael Martin, says he hopes to soon have a health board report into the death of a child who was sent home from Crumlin Hospital after a scheduled heart operation was postponed.
The surgery was due to take place on Monday, but had to be delayed because of a lack of paediatric intensive care nurses.
Doctors say the child was believed to be in good health when she was sent home.
The operation was scheduled to take place next week or the week after.
A statement from Crumlin Children's Hospital said that: " Like other countries, Ireland has a shortage of qualified intensive care nursing staff."
