Five overnight fatalities has brought to seven the total number of deaths on the roads North and South of the border in the past 24 hours.

Gardaí in Shannon are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 37-year-old pedestrian near Tullyglass, Co Clare.

The man was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident at around 2.30pm this morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile in Co Fermanagh two men, from Co Donegal, were killed at a black-spot area just outside Enniskillen.

The two have been named as Brian William Patrick Harvey and Gavin Patrick Lyons, both aged 20.

In Co Louth a 33-year-old male was killed when the car he was driving hit a wall at Jenkinstown near Dundalk just before midnight.

In Co Carlow a 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike was in collision with a car at Bagenalstown at 6pm yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are continuing to investigate an incident in Wicklow yesterday afternoon in which two teenage girls were killed when a trailer, pulled by a tractor, struck them as they were walking along the road with a bicycle.
