A Democratic Unionist Party councillor has claimed that police officers and British soldiers may have been involved in drug smuggling in the North.

Speaking during a heated meeting of the local district policing partnership in Ballymena, Co Antrim, Maurice Mills claimed that drug shipments had been allowed to pass through checkpoints on the Northern border and at ports in the six counties.

Mr Mills, the chairman of the partnership, said his information came from an undisclosed source.

The PSNI has challenged him to produce evidence to support his allegations.
