Ireland's first ever community based referendum has voted to save a number a mature trees in Galway's Eyre Square.

Ireland's first ever community based referendum has voted to save a number a mature trees in Galway's Eyre Square.

They voted that the enhancement scheme for the Square should be amended to incorporate the existing trees, numbering around 90.

The referendum took place at eight polling stations throughout Galway city.
