PAC to continue scrutiny of Revenue Commissioners

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee has called for continued parliamentary scrutiny of the Revenue Commissioners collection duties following publication of their latest annual report.

Fine Gael Deputy John Perry said that the revelation that the Revenue Commissioners have now collected over €700m from special investigations indicates that evasion of tax was more widespread than people had previously expected.

He claimed that it is important that the Revenue should be effectively monitored to ensure that they approach their tax collection duties efficiently and effectively on behalf of the State.

"It is important that compliant taxpayers can be confident that the Revenue Commissioners are

performing their tax collection duties effectively and without fear or favour," said Deputy Perry.

"The Public Accounts Committee will continue to play an effective supervisory role to ensure that the Revenue Commissioners do not drop the ball on tax collection," he added.
