Govt approves major health overhaul

The Government has approved a major overhaul of the health service at today's Cabinet meeting.

The plans are based on a joint document from the Departments of Health and Finance.

Under the new proposals, the health services would be controlled from a centralised Health Service Executive.

Four regional offices would replace the existing 11 health boards.
