Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced plans to introduce legislation compelling accountants, solicitors and other professions to report all suspicious financial transactions.

The legislation is part of an EU-wide crackdown on money-laundering.

Mr McDowell said the new laws would make it a crime for professionals to turn a blind eye to suspicious financial activities.
