Ring bid to save dual mandate

Fine Gael TD Michael Ring has confirmed plans to launch a legal challenge to the Government's abolition of the so-called 'dual mandate', which allowed sitting TDs and Senators to also hold seats on local councils.

The abolition of the 'dual mandate' was contained in the Local Government Bill, which has now become law, and some TDs and Senators have already resigned their local authority positions.
