Inquest to reopen into 1974 bombings

An inquest is to be reopened into the deaths of people killed in one of the biggest atrocities of the Northern Ireland Troubles, it emerged today.

The investigation will look at the deaths of 26 people who lost their lives in the Dublin bombings in May 1974.

It will also include the death of one person who was injured in the Monaghan bombing but who later died in hospital.

Dublin City Coroner Brian Farrell said a date may be set next week for the start of a full hearing.

Ireland saw its biggest losses of life when two loyalist car bombs exploded in central Dublin, killing 26 people, and another exploded in the border town of Monaghan, killing seven.
