Safety Council reports 12% fall in road deaths

The National Safety Council has reported that the number of road deaths in Ireland so far this year is 12% below that of last year.

The council said 142 people have died on the roads so far this year, compared to 161 up to June 6 2002.

Five people have died in road accidents in the last seven days.
