Man injured in shotgun blast

A man was injured in the head and ear when a shotgun was fired through his front door, police in Northern Ireland said today.

The man sustained minor injuries in the attack involving two masked men at his home on the Hazelbank Road in Coleraine.

The man was confronted by a masked man when he went to answer a knock at the front door after 11pm.

A second masked man appeared with a shotgun from the side of the house but the victim was able to shut the door before the shotgun was discharged.

The attackers fled in a white car believed to be a Toyota Corolla.

The vehicle was later found in the Quilley Picnic Area in Articlave.

Both masked men were described as being 5ft 9in and of medium build.

Police in Coleraine have asked members of the public to help them trace the gunmen.
