Missing loyalist: Police consider murder

A 40-year-old man from North Belfast has been arrested by police investigating the disappearance of a leading loyalist.

Alan McCullough has been missing since last Wednesday when he was driven from his home in the Lower Shankill Road area by two men.

Mr McCullough had recently returned to Belfast after fleeing from his home following an earlier feud within the loyalist Ulster Defence Association.

It is understood that McCullough is linked to the faction led by jailed Shankill loyalist Johnny Adair.

Police are now investigating the possibility that he has been murdered.

An earlier search of the reservoir at Waterworks Park in Belfast has been called off and police are now focusing their search on the Carrickfergus area of Co Antrim.
