Conroy to replace Byrne as Garda Commissioner

Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced that Noel Conroy will replace Pat Byrne as Garda Commissioner when the latter retires in two months' time.

Mr Conroy, a native of Co Mayo, has been a garda since 1963 and is currently deputy commissioner in charge of operations. He will take over as commissioner on July 20.
