A patient displaying SARS-like symptoms was tonight being treating in isolation in a Co Donegal hospital, health officials confirmed.

The North Western Health Board said that a suspect case was being treated as a precautionary measure.

Although the individual’s symptoms fitted the World Health Organisation’s definition of the pneumonia-like virus, officials said it was extremely unlikely the patient had SARS.

The NWHB said the patient was in a comfortable condition.

Despite being on strike local public health doctors were contacted over the weekend for advice on the case.
