Cavan raid: Five released without charge

The five people being questioned in connection with Monday night's shoot-out between gardai and a Dublin-based criminal gang were all released without charge last night.

The four men and one woman were arrested in a follow-up operation after at least two shots were fired at gardaí planning to conduct a search of an unoccupied house in Virginia, Co Cavan.

A second woman arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge yesterday morning.

Three gang members who escaped through fields and ditches after the shoot-out are still at large today.

Reports yesterday suggested that the leader of the gang from west Dublin was injured during the incident.
