The Children's Rights Alliance has accused the Government of failing to honour a seven-year-old promise to appoint an Ombudsman for Children.

The Oireachtas passed legislation establishing the position last year, but the alliance said the Department of Finance has failed to approve the advertising of the post, despite the provision of funding in the budget.
