Live Register rose by 2,881 last month

The Live Register increased by 2,881 people last month, an increase of 1.7%, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO said that, when seasonally adjusted, the figures showed a rise of 3,600 in the number of people signing on, the vast majority of them women.

It said the standardised unemployment rate for April was 4.6%, compared to 4.2% in April of last year.

Eric Conroy, INOU, said the news is worrying as it represents a significant increase compared to recent months.
