Collins to resign as RTE's D-G

The director-general of RTE, Bob Collins, has announced that is to leave the position before his contract expires.

The state broadcaster said Mr Collins, who has been head of the station since 1997, would step down in October.

Mr Collins joined RTE in 1975 and held a variety of post before becoming director general for a five-year period which was later extended to seven years.
