McDowell: Time for IRA to declare end to war
A senior TD has today intensified pressure on the IRA for a clear declaration that all of their activities had ended.
Speaking in Cork, Justice Minister Michael McDowell said both the British and Irish governments needed to be assured that all paramilitary activity - including targeting, arming, punishment shootings, beatings and the like - was going to stop, and that that was the IRA’s understanding of their contribution to the acts of completion on the Northern Ireland peace process.
