O'Malley takes up EBRD role

Des O’Malley is to become an alternate director of the London-based European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Mr O’Malley, 64, retired last year from the Dáil, where he had represented a Limerick constituency for more than 30 years.

He served in the Justice, and a number of Trade, Industry and Commerce-linked ministries, establishing the Progressive Democrats in 1985 after a series of clashes with Charles Haughey.

Mr O’Malley has represented Ireland on the board of the Reconstruction and Development Bank for the past six years.

He takes up his new post in July.
