Archbishops call for humanitarian assistance for Iraq

Ireland's two most senior Anglican clergymen have urged the international community to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq.

In a statement to the media, Robin Eames, the Archbishop of Armagh, and John Neill, the Archbishop of Dublin, said: "A pressing responsibility rests on those who have waged war against Iraq, involving huge financial resources, to provide comparable resources immediately in humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq.

"Furthermore, ways must be found to allow the wider international community to share in this urgent task."

The two archbishops also called on all Church of Ireland parishes to considering making a collection on Easter Day for the people of Iraq.
