PANA says UN should be given control over Iraq

The Peace and Neutrality Alliance has said that the United Nations should be given temporary control over Iraq following the overthrow of President Saddam Hussein by the United States and Britain.

Speaking at a press conference in Dublin, PANA chairman Roger Cole said the US and British armies should withdraw from Iraq following the collapse of Iraqi authority in Baghdad yesterday.

Mr Cole said the US/British invasion of Iraq was designed to secure domination of oil and water resources in the Middle East and to advance US and Israeli interests.

"The only role for the United Nations envisaged by Bush is to act as a fig leaf for a war that is and remains illegal," he said.
