Opposition over college fees for Dempsey

Reports today indicate that the Minister for Education Noel Dempsey is facing opposition from his own cabinet colleagues over his plans to re-introduce third level fees.

Mr. Dempsey said last week that a review of third level fees would be completed within weeks.

However, it is understood that senior figures in Fianna Fail and the PDs have now shown concerns about the possible political fall-out from re-introducing college fees in the coming year.
