Orde gets year to prove good job
The North's Policing Board has given chief constable Hugh Orde 12 months to persuade the public that his officers are doing a good job.
In the last 18 months, satisfaction with the work of the PSNI has fallen from 69% to 61%.
With the British government spending £10m (€14.78m) on policing, the authorities are now demanding an urgent halt to the slide.
They have also demanded a reduction in crime rates, an increase in detection rates and continued efforts to get more officers onto the streets.
