Non-nationals now make up 18% of the Irish prison population, according to the Prison Service's latest annual report, which is due to be published this week.

Non-nationals now make up 18% of the Irish prison population, according to the Prison Service's latest annual report, which is due to be published this week.

The report says more than 1,700 of the almost 10,000 inmates in Irish prisons in 2001 were non-nationals from 90 different countries.
