Morris witness to be cross-examined by ex-husband's lawyers

Lawyers for a Co Donegal Garda are due to cross-examine his ex-wife today about allegations she made against her estranged husband.

Sheenagh McMahon has claimed that Detective Noel McMahon, along with Superintendent Kevin Lennon, staged explosive finds in the early 1990s to further their own careers.

Yesterday, she also told the Morris Tribunal that Mr McMahon and Mr Lennon allowed a garda informer to carry an IRA bomb across the border in order to protect the informer from discovery.

The bomb exploded in Strabane, Co Tyrone in July 1993, injuring three people.

Detective McMahon's lawyers are expected to portray Mrs McMahon's evidence as a mixture of confusion and rumour, motivated by her personal dislike for him and Superintendent Lennon.

She told the tribunal yesterday that her only motivation was to tell the truth and that she stands over everything she has said.
