Two more US troop carriers to cease using Shannon

Two US airlines have announced plans to cease bringing American soldiers through Shannon Airport due to security concerns.

North American Airlines and Miami International both announced yesterday that they would divert all military flights to other European airports .

Earlier this year, World Airways, another airline which carries troops for the US military, also pulled out of Shannon, but said the decision was due to internal reasons and not security.

Anti-war activists have breached the perimeter fence at Shannon on three occasions in recent months to "disarm" US military planes using the civilian facility. A total of seven protestors have been charged with criminal damage following the breaches.
