Iarnroad Eireann has announced that they are to abandon plans to charge passengers to use its park and ride facilities.

The announcement follows intervention by the Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan.

Irish Rail had announced that they would be charging commuters who parked their vehicles at Booterstown, Clontarf, and Malahide DART stations.

The move was intended to combat the use of the spaces by drivers who were not commuting but working or shopping nearby.

The company now say that they will be examining alternative ways of making the spaces only available to DART commuters.
