A police officer was recovering in hospital today after a dramatic car chase along a motorway in Northern Ireland in the early hours of the morning.

Two people were arrested and four officers injured after a stolen Subaru Impresa car heading towards Belfast was pursued along the M1 motorway near Armagh at about 2am.

The vehicle had been stolen from the Loughgall Road in Armagh.

As the car sped towards Belfast, police deployed a stinger device to stop it, puncturing its tyres.

The driver rammed a police car, smashing it into a motorway crash barrier, and another police vehicle was slightly damaged.
