Alcohol consumption increasing 'at alarming rate'

Alcohol consumption in Ireland is increasing at an alarming rate, the Republic’s health minister warned tonight.

Micheal Martin said alcohol-related problems cost Irish society about €2.4bn a year in areas such as healthcare, road accidents, crime and lost productivity.
