The children's charity Barnardo's is moving to calm fears expressed by the Adopted People's Association about a State child abuse database.

The children's charity Barnardo's is moving to calm fears expressed by the Adopted People's Association about a State child abuse database.

The APA claim the State is entrusting the database entirely to Barnardo's, which could result in difficulties for abuse survivors in accessing files.

However, Barnardo's insists the files will remain the property of the Department of Education.

Barnardo's chief executive Owen Keenan says it will provide extra help to those looking for information.
