Gardai involved in Dublin shootout

Two men are being held by gardai in Dublin following a high speed chase through Inchicore last night.

The men, aged 18 and 22 years of age, were travelling in a car shortly before midnight when gardai travelling behind them along the old Nass/ Bluebell Road noticed something suspicious.

The Garda patrol vehicle followed the car towards the Bluebell Road where a high speed chase ensued.

The Garda vehicle was rammed three times and a passenger in the back of the speeding car fired shots through the broken rear windscreen with a pump action shotgun.

However the shots did not penetrate the Garda vehicle and no one was injured.

The chase then continued and the car was abandoned at a flat complex where a number of men fled the vehicle.

Two men were subsequently arrested and are being held under section thirty of the Offences

The scene is being preserved for technical examination.
