Gardai have arrested nine people in Co Louth on connection with a supermarket robbery in Dundalk.

Gardai have arrested nine people in Co Louth on connection with a supermarket robbery in Dundalk.

A man wearing a balaclava and armed with a gun entered a supermarket at Ard Esmuinn shortly before 2pm today.

The man made away with a quantity of cash.

Following the incident, gardai went to a house at Oakland Park, Cox's Demesne in Dundalk and arrested the people - seven men and two women - inside.

One of the men fled to the roof of the house and was taken down by the fire brigade at 3.30pm.

All nine people are being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act and gardai have not yet recovered the stolen cash.
