A committee established to examine the possible use of video evidence in Irish trials is due to hold its first meeting later today.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell set up the group to examine the potential use of video-conference technology in pre-trial hearings and civil cases where witnesses may be living abroad or some distance from the court.
