Gardai are tonight continuing to investigate the sudden death of a seven-year-old girl who collapsed on her way to hospital earlier this week.

Rhona Young died shortly after collapsing, at Letterkenny General Hospital, Co Donegal.

Rhona, who lived locally and was the second-youngest of eight children, was said by her family to have been suffering flu-like symptoms.

She died on Wednesday and her body was afterwards taken to Dublin for a post-mortem examination by deputy state pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy.

The post-mortem was understood to have initially proved inconclusive and further tests were being carried out on the girl.

Gardai were also carrying out a forensic examination of the family’s Letterkenny home.
