Cowen unlikely to intervene in 'FARC' trial

Foreign Affairs Minister Brian Cowen, has said it is unlikely that he will intervene in the trial of the three Irishmen accused of training FARC rebels in Colombia.

The comments follow a call by Fianna Fail Senator, Mary White, who is observing the trial in Bogota.

Later today a man who defected from the FARC guerrilla movement in Colombia is due to give evidence against Martin McAuley, Jim Monaghan and Niall Connolly.

The three men are charged with training the FARC rebel army in IRA bomb-making techniques.
