Durkan hits back at Trimble criticism
DLP leader, Mark Durkan has hit back at Mr Trimble insisting he can no longer have things all the way he wanted them.
Mr Durkan, who represented Derry in the Assembly, revealed that during a meeting of ministers in the city before direct rule was re-imposed, Mr Trimble had insisted any press release about their discussion could only refer to Londonderry and not Derry.
"This is the man who is now lecturing me about tolerance and accommodation and about parity of esteem.
"If the use of the name Londonderry or Derry is about parity of esteem, it works both ways David Trimble and it can't only work one way.
"You need to realise that the days when things worked only one way and the way that he as Unionist leader wants are gone."
The statement comes after Mr Trimble crticised plans by the Derry City council to officially change the city's name from Londonderry to Derry.
