A leading member of the Ulster Unionist Party has said that republicans must take major steps if they want to persuade unionists to resume sharing power with Sinn Fein.

David McNarry, a close aide to UUP leader David Trimble, said unionists will need proof that republicans have honoured their promises of non-violence by carrying out transparent "acts of completion".
