Irish MEP John Cushnahan has said that countries hoping to gain access to the European Union must take action to combat counterfeit operations.

Irish MEP John Cushnahan has said that countries hoping to gain access to the European Union must take action to combat counterfeit operations.

Mr Cushnahan said the trade in counterfeit goods increased nine-fold between 1998 and 2001, with pirate CDs alone costing legitimate businesses €5bn.
