Safety Council issues warning over broken car lights
The National Safety Council has issued a warning about the role of broken car lights in road accidents.
Headlamps with faulty beams are particularly dangerous, as vehicles are often mistaken for motorbikes, according to the Chief Executive, Pat Costello.
He said, while the NCT has raised the standards of vehicle road worthiness, car owners should regularly check their lights are clean and in working order.
He said: "We have all come across a situation where you are on a country road, there is one light coming towards you and you think it is a motorbike but in fact it is a car with one of the side lamps defunct. So as a consequence that can be a particular case of high risk."
