Rape accused fails to appear for sentencing

A bench warrant has been issued for a Dublin man convicted of the rape and unlawful detention of his former girlfriend who failed to appear for his sentencing.

The 33-year-old accused had been remanded on bail by Mr Justice Paul Carney since he was convicted by a Central Criminal Court jury last November of rape, anal rape and false imprisonment of the woman in his city centre flat on September, 18, 1998.
