High winds cause minor damage in eastern areas

High winds and rain last night have caused some minor damage and flooding in the east of the country.

Some roads in Co Wicklow were impassable this morning after the winds felled power lines and trees in the Enniskerry area, while localised flooding was reported in the Pembroke Road/Northumberland Road area of Dublin.

Met Eireann said the gale-force winds averaged speeds of 35mph, with gusts exceeding 50mph.

The strongest winds were recorded in the north and north-west.
