Irish Government delegation to visit Iraq

A delegation from the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee is travelling to Iraq next week.

It will meet a number of political and non-governmental representatives.

Labour TD Michael D Higgins, who was on a previous visit to Iraq, says ways to prevent war against Saddam Hussein's country will also be discussed.

"I think a non-military solution is one that is going to have to be reached," he said.

"I think the capacity is there for that and we should be giving a lead, but this is a view which I feel is not so shared by others."
