High winds have forced engineers in Dublin to suspend work on the city's Spire monument until the weekend.

The 120-metre structure was due to be completed this morning, but officials felt the wind would have made further work unsafe.

Three of the Spire's six sections are in place on the former site of Nelson's Pillar near the GPO on O'Connell St.
