Bus/rail workers reject call for stoppage end

The National Bus and Rail Workers union has rejected the Minister for Transport's call to abandon tomorrow's planned stoppage of bus and rail services nationwide.

Minister Seamus Brennan said his door was open for talks at any time and said the NBRU did not turn up for a meeting on restructuring CIE last Thursday.

Union General Secretary, Liam Tobin, says the Minister has never contacted them about anything.

"I have been writing since December 10 when the Minister stated his intention to set up bilateral meetings, that is between his department and the trade unions, to discuss these issues.

"We have had nothing but a stony silence ever since. The Minister has continued issuing licences to private operators to operate head-to-head competition, which was of course was not suppose to happen."
